The foyer of Forum cinema will present works by students of the Powiatowy Zespół Szkół i Placówek Specjalnych for one week (until 23 November). The authors had been preparing for this vernissage for a long time. They experienced the public presentation of their work intensely and were pleased by the great interest it generated.

– We are very happy that we were able to exhibit our work at Forum and that many people will be able to see it – says teacher Urszula Krzywdzińska. – I wonder what the comments on the internet forum will be. People often believe that those with intellectual disabilities are a burden on society. We are not tolerant. To this day, I encounter remarks when the group goes outside the school. People turn around to look at us and comment.

– And I admire these people and learn from them – adds Krzywdzińska. – In their dealings with others, they do not scheme or deceive; they are natural. What is black is black, and what is white is white. If people thought about important matters the way they think about the smallest ones, the world would be wonderful.

– The workshop participants devoted themselves completely to their work – says Magdalena Konieczna, an instructor at the Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury and the project's artistic supervisor. – Art is their space. They express themselves through it and function perfectly well. I admired the care with which they made their work.

– We are lucky to have found an instructor like Magda Konieczna, because she has an excellent rapport with our children – says Krzywdzińska. – Not everyone can find their place among people with disabilities. They are big, aged 20 or more, but they are at the developmental stage of a four- or five-year-old child. A characteristic of intellectual disability is that a person does not think logically. That is why it is so important to find the right technique and direct the work of a person with a disability.

– The students had already taken part in art classes – adds Urszula Krzywdzińska. – But this was the first time they painted on easels. There is no such possibility at school. That is why we are so pleased with the classes at the MDK studio.
