The editorial office was contacted by a resident of the City of Ceramics, who drew attention to the situation on Małachowskiego Street, near block no. 8. The issue concerns cars parked on the pavement:

Several times I saw a person using a wheelchair unable to get through there along the pavement. They had to move onto the road and go around the cars

The person who reported the issue emphasises that the street is one-way. On one side, cars are left next to the kerb. Those drivers leave space for pedestrians. On the other side, however, parked vehicles sometimes take up too much of the pavement, making it impossible for a wheelchair to pass.

The resident emphasises that this is not an isolated case. On the day he reported the matter to us, a van driver had apparently parked in this way.

We visited the site

After receiving the report, we checked the indicated location. During our visit, on the left-hand side of the street mentioned by the resident, there were no cars parked in a way that blocked the pavement.

This does not mean, however, that the problem does not occur there. Even leaving a vehicle in this way for a short time, making it impossible for a wheelchair to pass, may mean that a person with a disability has to look for another route or, in an extreme situation, move onto the road.

We therefore appeal to drivers to pay particular attention when parking on Małachowski Street to leaving sufficient space for pedestrians, especially people using wheelchairs and those with mobility difficulties.

Spending a few additional minutes looking for a suitable place may determine whether someone can safely walk or travel through.
