Before noon on Thursday, the first patient with COVID-19 was admitted to the new modular hospital.
– The first patient has just entered the intensive-care room. First, we are transferring our most seriously ill patients—those on ventilators and non-invasive ventilation, says Artur Nahorecki, head of the internal medicine ward
Moving the patients is a difficult logistical task because of the complexity of the therapies used to treat them and the amount of medical equipment that must be transported along with them.
– Today we will transfer around 30 patients. They are patients in serious and moderate condition. We will start with the most seriously ill and gradually move on to those in increasingly lighter condition; at the very end, we will transfer ambulatory patients who require only oxygen therapy, adds Dr. Artur Nahorecki.
Supplying the hospital with a huge amount of equipment and medication, as well as setting up computer and monitoring systems, has been under way since Monday.
It should also be added that opening the modular hospital means that the pediatric ward will remain in its old location and will probably resume operations at the end of the month or at the beginning of the year.
