It is difficult to imagine the modern world without programming. After all, it affects our entire reality, allowing us to enjoy smartphones, games, the internet and all kinds of gadgets. It is estimated that programming’s impact on our lives will become even greater over the next few years, and consequently programmers’ earnings will increase significantly. Free workshops for schools are starting now, during which students and teachers will have the opportunity to create their own programming projects!
Free online classes for students and teachers are launching once again. The two programs—“School with Giants” for young coding enthusiasts and “Teacher of the Future” for teachers wishing to improve their digital skills—start on November 30 and will run during the first two weeks of December. The classes will be held as live webinars on YouTube. Registration is already open at www.szkolazgigantami.pl.
The Centre for Education Development (ORE) has assumed honorary patronage of the initiative.
Who can participate?
The School with Giants program is intended for primary and secondary school students, as well as teaching staff, throughout Poland. The classes are divided into age groups, with lesson topics appropriately tailored to each group.
Younger students aged 9–12, together with a trainer, will try to transfer the worlds of the most popular games, such as Minecraft, Pokemon and Fortnite, into the Scratch programming environment. Older participants aged 13–18 will learn the secrets of creating websites.
The aim of School with Giants is to promote the idea of programming from an early age. The courses (Teacher of the Future) for teachers are intended to help them learn tools for conducting online classes, as well as deepen their knowledge of programming languages included in the school curriculum (Scratch and Python). The initiative’s partner is Microsoft Polska, which will conduct one of the classes.
The detailed program and registration form are available at www.szkolazgigantami.pl.
How can you join?
The classes will be held on YouTube, on the Giganci Programowania channel. All that is required to participate is a working computer and an internet connection.
Prior registration using the registration form available at www.szkolazgigantami.pl is required.
Registered participants will receive a link to the live broadcast before each lesson.
Competition for the highest number of registrations
Entire schools are invited to participate in the School with Giants classes so that they can propose them as part of their computer science lessons and compete for attractive prizes for schools, awarded based on the number of registered students.
The main prize is a PLN 3,000 voucher to be used for technological equipment for the school at the X-kom.pl store, as well as vouchers for programming courses. Schools will also receive certificates of participation in the workshops.
Schools participating in the initiative will be able to monitor their position in the ranking on the initiative organizer’s website at www.ranking.szkolazgigantami.pl.
The project is intended both as an alternative to standard computer science lessons in schools and as an opportunity to begin an adventure with programming. For teachers, it will be an opportunity to become more familiar with the tools they currently need to use in their daily work.
Previous editions of both School with Giants and Teacher of the Future attracted thousands of participants and received honorary patronage from, among others, the Minister of Education, the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Centre for Education Development.
The initiative is organized by Giganci Programowania, a company that conducts programming courses for children and young people and organizes training for teaching staff to improve their digital skills.
