One of our readers has asked for 0 Rh+ convalescent plasma. His father is in a Bolesławiec hospital in moderately serious condition. He is not on a ventilator, but urgently needs plasma.
If you have had COVID and can donate blood, you should contact the Regional Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Center in Wałbrzych at 74 664 63 10. It is also possible to donate blood in a bloodmobile that travels around our region.
The plasma will be allocated to everyone in need, in the order in which they are placed on the list. The more people donate blood, the sooner our reader’s father will receive help.
Who can donate plasma?
Plasma may be collected from people who:
- meet the basic eligibility criteria for blood donors set out in the Regulation of the Minister of Health of 11 September 2017 on the conditions for collecting blood from prospective blood donors and blood donors (Journal of Laws 2017, item 1741);
- have had COVID-19 or an asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection (confirmed by tests or an entry in the gabinet.gov.pl application), have been deemed recovered and feel healthy, meaning that at least: 28 days have passed since the symptoms ended;
- 18 days have passed since the end of isolation for people who had an asymptomatic infection;
- are aged 18–65;
- in the case of a previous transfusion or women with a history of pregnancy, additional tests will be required and will be performed by Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Centers.
Before donating blood, it is best to contact the Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Center by phone, as the details of the collection are arranged individually with each donor. Donors are not required to undergo any additional tests on their own. The necessary tests for donors are provided by the public blood service.
