At the end of October this year, an indictment was filed with the court against 10 people who defrauded a telecommunications company of phones in Germany in 2004. All ten admitted to the charges and filed motions for voluntary submission to punishment.

Several dozen people from Lower Silesia are involved in the case, the vast majority of them residents of Bolesławiec and Złotoryja. Using forged documents, including documents confirming registration as residents in Germany, the accused signed contracts and obtained mobile phones for a symbolic fee, then sold them for PLN 50–100 to the organizers of the scheme.

The investigation is ongoing and developing. Charges will soon be brought against further individuals. Germany’s authorities are determining whether German employees of telecommunications service outlets also participated in the fraud.
