– In accordance with our declarations, the southern carriageway of the A18 motorway, maliciously called the “longest staircase in Europe,” will finally be reconstructed. Work on this project is already under way on the section from the border to Iłowa, and we are approaching the point when work will begin from Iłowa to the interchange with the A4 motorway at Krzyżowa – said Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk.

What will the contractor be responsible for?

General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways:

The southern carriageway of national road No. 18 and its surroundings will be reconstructed. The project includes demolishing the existing 9.5 m-wide concrete southern carriageway and constructing a new concrete surface 11 m wide. In addition, two interchanges (Luboszów and Golnice) will be reconstructed, and acceleration and deceleration lanes will be built at the Świętoszów Południe rest area. We also plan to equip the A18 motorway with all necessary environmental protection features, including wildlife overpasses. The project will be carried out under the “Build” contract formula.

When will the project be completed?

The time allotted for completing the works and obtaining an occupancy permit is 25 months. (The winter periods from 16 December to 15 March, counted as three months, are not included in the time allotted for the works.) Completion of the works is planned for 2023.

Office:

The main aim of the project is to improve road safety and driving comfort, as well as to adapt national road No. 18 (on the over-70-km Olszyna–Golnice section) to the standards of a road network with motorway parameters.
