On September 30, provincial rescue exercises “Bory 20” were held on the border of Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec counties. The exercises were organized by the Lower Silesian Provincial Commander of the State Fire Service in Wrocław, with the participation of the County Commander of the State Fire Service in Zgorzelec and the County Commander of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec.

The main objective was to verify the ability to conduct rescue and firefighting operations during an epidemic while applying all measures related to the sanitary regime. Another aim was to determine the level of preparedness of the forces and resources of the national rescue and firefighting system to combat the effects of long-lasting and large-scale incidents, such as a forest fire or flood, requiring the participation of forces and resources from the Central Operational Reserve.

The exercise scenario consisted of two episodes:

  • episode I – a forest fire covering approximately 30 hectares in the Węgliniec Forest District; the following operations: deploying 14 water fire-suppression lines and providing qualified first aid to an injured person
  • episode II – pumping water from a body of water that was flooding a nearby town, evacuating injured people and providing them with qualified first aid; additionally, raising the crest of the flood embankment.

A total of 107 people and 41 firefighting vehicles took part in the exercises, including the Kaczawa Special Pump Company, the Lubań Logistics Company, the Legnica Firefighting Company and crews from the Bolesławiec County Headquarters of the State Fire Service.

The entire exercise was evaluated by a team of appointed referees, who will prepare an assessment along with conclusions.
