This year’s “Zatargi z Teatrem – w połowie drogi” was special because, originally scheduled for March 2020, it was postponed until September due to the coronavirus pandemic. For the same reason, it was not possible to organise the theatre festival on its usual scale.

Despite the difficulties, one of the main events organised by the St. Wyspiański Youth Cultural Centre in Bolesławiec maintained the artistic standard to which Bolesławiec residents have been accustomed for many years.

The first event was a theatre workshop for young people with Grażyna Tabor and Marek Kościółek. In the evening, the festival began with the performance “Źródło”, prepared by the Latający Teatr Kantorowi theatre group. The performance, directed by Prof. Leszek Mądzik, was inspired by the work of Tadeusz Kantor.

Performances and a Poetry Slam

On Saturday, 12 September, audiences could see four performances on the theatre stage, differing in genre and style. The first was “Ptam”, prepared by the Reaktor Theatre studio of MDK and directed by Aneta Ćwieluch. The next production, “Wyspa Chudych”, was created by young actors from Teatr Dziewiątka of the Zespół Szkół Ponadpodstawowych in Lubań (directed by A. Ćwieluch).

The third part of Saturday afternoon was an artistic performance, namely the poetry slam “Poezjokracja”, performed solo by the talented poet Maciej Ćwieluch, who performs under the pseudonym Wieszcz Leszcz. Poetry slams are becoming increasingly popular, and this type of performance was presented in our city for the first time.

The culmination of this year’s “Zatargi w połowie drogi” was the performance “Second Hand” by the Budka Telefoniczna theatre studio of MDK, directed by Aneta Ćwieluch. Performed by five women, the production was largely based on texts by Nobel laureate Svetlana Alexievich.

At the end of each performance, all performers received commemorative gifts associated with Bolesławiec, presented by representatives of the Bolesławiec County authorities: Head of the Education Department – Katarzyna Zięba, Member of the County Board – Stanisław Chwojnicki, and Chair of the County Council – Ryszard Kawka.
