Officers from the Police Station in Leśna received information that a Skoda Octavia, stolen in the Czech Republic during the night, was located in a nearby town.
Asp. szt. Justyna Bujakiewicz-Rodzeń from the District Police Headquarters in Lubań:
As they headed to the indicated location, the officers noticed an oncoming vehicle matching the description, but bearing Polish registration plates. Suspecting that the car had been stolen, the officers attempted to stop it. The driver began to flee, however, ignoring orders to stop, slowing down or blocking the officers’ path and preventing them from overtaking. While fleeing, he violated traffic regulations.
The chase ended in Zgorzelec County after the fugitive failed to yield to another vehicle and collided first with the aforementioned car and then with a streetlight. Fortunately, the driver involved in the collision was unharmed.
This did not stop the suspect, a 44-year-old resident of Bogatynia. He began fleeing on foot. It did him little good—the fugitive was quickly detained.
Drugs were found in the Bogatynia resident’s wallet. Czech registration plates and documents belonging to other vehicles were found in the car.
Spokeswoman:
The man was taken to police custody. His behavior indicated that he was under the influence of a psychoactive substance. Blood was therefore collected from him at a medical facility for testing.
The stolen car, valued at PLN 5,000, was recovered. By court decision, the man was remanded in custody for three months. The 44-year-old had already been convicted. He could now face up to five years in prison.
