Officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec:
September is the month when many mushroom pickers come to Bolesławiec County because of the beautiful Lower Silesian Forests. The weather is favorable, so Bolesławiec police officers are reminding all mushroom pickers, both local residents and visitors, that if they go into the forest, they should обязательно take a mobile phone with a fully charged battery.
Every year in the autumn, uniformed services receive numerous reports of mushroom pickers going missing, resulting in large-scale search operations. Therefore, we are asking mushroom pickers in advance to use common sense and take care of their own safety.
How not to get lost in the forest?
- tell your loved ones about your trip to the forest, indicate the area where you will be staying and when you plan to return
- take reflective items or flashlights with you; thanks to them, you will be more visible at night
- if you take your dog, be sure to keep it on a leash
- do not carry valuables with you; you will avoid losing them
- for safety reasons, do not enter military training areas, due to the risk posed by unexploded ordnance
- if you take children or elderly people with you, do not let them out of your sight
- remember distinctive features of the area and the numbers of boundary posts, which will help you find your way back more quickly
- if someone gets lost, becomes separated from the group and remains in the forest for a longer period, they should contact the emergency number 112 and, if possible, report where they are located – they should look for a granite boundary post; the number shown on the post will allow rescuers to quickly determine where the missing person is
if the missing person finds their own way back, they should immediately notify the police that they no longer need assistance.
How not to get robbed?
- when going into the forest, secure your vehicle properly, lock the doors and windows, and leave the car in a visible place so that it does not become an easy target for thieves
- do not leave valuable items in the vehicle, such as navigation equipment, a laptop, a mobile phone, a handbag, a wallet or documents
