Drivers and pedestrians can now use the bridge on Mostowa Street in Bolesławiec without obstruction. The county and city authorities, representatives of the county roads authority and the contractors took part in the symbolic opening ceremony.

Thanks to the work progressing smoothly, the bridge was opened for use nearly a month earlier than initially planned. The total value of the project was PLN 2,553,579.78.

Crossing the Bóbr River in Bolesławiec is possible via one of two bridges: the newly renovated one on Mostowa Street and the other on Zgorzelecka Street. Because of the heavy transit traffic on the bridge on Zgorzelecka Street, residents are more likely to choose the route via Mostowa Street.

“The bridge was in poor technical condition and required immediate renovation. Renovating the bridge became a priority task. Due to the bridge’s strategic importance, I had been discussing its renovation and the possible participation of the City of Bolesławiec in its costs with Piotr Roman, the city’s mayor, for some time. After receiving a decision on co-financing this project from the Government Roads Fund, we jointly decided to carry out the urgent renovation. Following the tender procedure, the selected contractor offered a significantly lower amount than originally planned,” says Tomasz Gabrysiak, Bolesławiec County Starost. “As a result, we have made substantial savings,” he adds.

The county authorities had assumed that the renovation would cost approximately PLN 3,000,000. Ultimately, the total value of the project amounted to PLN 2,553,579.78. Under an agreement with the Municipality of Bolesławiec, PLN 289,717.89 was provided by the city authorities, with the Bolesławiec County contributing the same amount. The remaining funds—PLN 1,974,144.00—were obtained from the Government Roads Fund under an agreement with the Lower Silesian Voivode.

“During the renovation, traffic was controlled alternately in each direction. We managed to carry out the work without completely closing the bridge,” says the Starost. The work began at the end of last year. The bridge was scheduled to be opened for use by the end of August. However, residents have been able to use it in both directions for several days, nearly a month ahead of the expected date.

What was done?

The bridge renovation involved dismantling elements of the deck, reprofiling and forming roadway gradients, as well as renovating the sidewalks by applying a profiling layer to the deck slab using PCC mortars together with sidewalk edge beams, renovating the supports and applying anti-corrosion protection to the structural elements of the spans. The contractor selected through the tender was Adam Zamirski Zakład Inżynierii Lądowo–Wodnej “JAZ” 59–216 from Kunice.
