This symposium, exceptional among summer cultural events, will take place from 10 to 21 August 2020 in the BOK–MCC studios. The event will involve residents of Bolesławiec trying their hand at sculpture, creating “under the masters’ eye” – artists working in sculpture and artistic ceramics who will be creating in Bolesławiec at that time as part of the 56th International Ceramic and Sculpture Symposium Bolesławiec 2020. The central theme will be the sculptural portrait – “A Study of the Head”.

The symposium commissioner is Czesław Matyjewicz, a graduate of PWSP (now ASP), Faculty of Sculpture in Wrocław. After completing his studies, he served as an assistant at the sculpture faculty of that institution. In the 1990s, he worked on stonemasonry and conservation projects, initially at the Monument Conservation Workshop and then at the “GROSSULAR” company, which he co-founded. He participated in restoring the stonework of Edith Stein’s chapel. From 1995 to 2005, he ran a sculpture and drawing studio at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre. During that time, he also served as commissioner of children’s and youth Ceramic and Sculpture Symposia. He has participated many times in International Ceramic and Sculpture Symposia. His works have been presented at numerous group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. At present, at BOK–MCC, he runs the “Sculpture and Its Surroundings” studio, focused on sculpture design and production, as well as the “Drawing from Nature and Imagination” art workshops.

The “Under the Masters’ Eye. 2020 Ceramic and Sculpture Symposium” was co-financed by the National Centre for Culture as part of the “Culture – Interventions 2020” programme..
