One of the items on the agenda of the July session of the Bolesławiec City Council, which is currently being held remotely, was a vote on a draft resolution concerning a vote of confidence for president Piotr Roman. After secretary Jerzy Zieliński presented a report on the state of the city, Maciej Małkowski, head of the Impuls Miasta councillors’ club, spoke. He criticised the head of the City of Ceramics, among other things, for the lack of a nursery, the lack of a civic budget and the reintroduction of property tax.
Łukasz Jaźwiec, chairman of the Bezpartyjni i Ziemia Bolesławiecka councillors’ club, accused the opposition club of demagoguery over the nursery. He added that the report and budget implementation should be viewed in the context of circumstances, namely the “gradual recentralisation of local governments” carried out over several years.
The councillor stressed that the president is currently acting “a little like a firefighter” (i.e. putting out fires). He also said that Piotr Roman had fully passed the test of defending the interests of Bolesławiec residents.
Dawid Sarbak of Law and Justice also spoke critically about the report. Among other things, he accused the president of failing to listen to residents’ voices, as demonstrated by the debate on introducing a paid parking zone.
Summing up the discussion before the vote, P. Roman referred to the title of Erich Maria Remarque’s book “All Quiet on the Western Front”, remarking ironically that the opposition’s comments contained little new material. “I am held accountable for what you adopt,” he stated. “This is a trial of the president as the executive authority.”
He added that he is on the streets of Bolesławiec every day and speaks with residents every day.
After a lengthy discussion, the Bolesławiec City Council granted the president a vote of confidence. Twelve councillors voted in favour. Councillors from Impuls Miasta and Law and Justice abstained.
