The incident took place on 15 July in Szczytnica. The 33-year-old from Iwiny (Warta Bolesławiecka commune) stole a Peugeot Boxer van. He then drove it onto the A18.

When the vehicle’s owner realised he had been robbed, he notified the police. The car was located using GPS.

Police officers tried to stop the 33-year-old on the A18. However, he ignored the signals given by the officers. What is more, he cut them off, tried to push them off the road, and overtook other vehicles at high speed.

This continued for several dozen kilometres. Eventually, the resident of Iwiny crossed the border. He was stopped in Germany, where a roadblock had been organised. (The van was immobilised with a road spike strip).

It was this cross-border chase that prompted Sebastian Woźniak, deputy head of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, Sebastian Woźniak to request that the suspect be held in temporary custody for three months. The court granted the request.

The 33-year-old was charged with 14 offences. The most serious charge concerns creating a direct risk of a disaster in land traffic. The arrested man could face a combined sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

It is worth adding that the resident of Iwiny committed all 14 of the aforementioned offences within… a single month.

The 33-year-old also has numerous property offences to his name. These include thefts and attempted burglaries, mainly targeting Biedronka stores. Let us recall. Recently, we reported on another attempted break-in at a store in Warta Bolesławiecka commune:

Based on the evidence collected, including surveillance footage, officers from the Police Station in Kruszyn identified a person suspected of attempting to break into a store in Warta Bolesławiecka commune.

Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters: “The perpetrator was arrested at allotment gardens. During the arrest, officers secured the clothing and balaclava the man had been wearing while committing the offence.”
