The incident took place at Zalew Złotoryjski. “The dangerous situation occurred in a publicly accessible recreational area, on the day before the start of the swimming season, meaning the designated water area was not supervised by lifeguards and residents entered the water at their own risk,” reports junior inspector Wojciech Jabłoński of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.

Taking advantage of the sunny weather, the 65-year-old resident of Złotoryja was swimming outside the areas designated by the facility administrator. Spokesperson:

After a short while, his calm movements became more forceful, and city surveillance footage shows him violently striking the water with his arms.

Fortunately, the 65-year-old was spotted by a 44-year-old man who was walking along the promenade. The latter thought he had seen a sack lying in the water. When he came closer, however, he realized that a human body was floating on the water’s surface.

Junior inspector W. Jabłoński: “He rushed to help without hesitation. He ran into the water and pulled out the already unconscious man. He began rescue efforts, thanks to which the man’s vital functions were restored, and he informed the police and ambulance service about the whole situation.”

Officers:

In view of the above situation and the fact that the summer holidays are in full swing, we appeal to all residents to pay attention to the behavior of people around them, especially while relaxing near the water.

They add:

At any moment, it may turn out that someone needs help. Let us not remain indifferent! Let us respond! If we do not know how to behave in a particular situation, inform the emergency services by calling 112, and until they arrive, ask other people for help—they may know what to do.
