The tragedy occurred on June 16 on a forest road between Szczytniki nad Kaczawą and Buczynka. “The driver of a Citroen, a 54-year-old resident of Legnica County, failed to adapt his speed to the road conditions, consequently losing control of the vehicle and hitting a tree. As a result of the incident, the 61-year-old passenger died at the scene,” reports junior warrant officer Anna Grześków of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica.
She adds:
Officers from the Traffic Division conducted a breathalyzer test, which showed nearly 3 per mille of alcohol in the exhaled air of both the driver and the 48-year-old female passenger.
The 54-year-old was charged with causing a fatal accident and driving while intoxicated. At the prosecution’s request, the court remanded the suspect in custody for one month.
The man could now face a prison sentence of between two and as many as twelve years.
