Rail transport in the region is returning to normal. After restoring some connections in May and June, Koleje Dolnośląskie decided to resume another group of trains.
– Although the situation is still far from what it was at the beginning of the year, we are slowly getting back on the right track. That is why we are introducing the fourth stage of restoring connections. By significantly increasing their number, we are encouraging Lower Silesians to use the railway not only as a means of transport to work, but also during holiday trips. It is with them in mind that we are preparing special initiatives, such as “Summer with KD”, intended to stimulate tourism in the region, and the greater number of connections will certainly help us achieve this goal – said Bartłomiej Rodak, press spokesperson for Koleje Dolnośląskie.
More local connections
At the beginning of July, 23 trains will return to the Lower Silesian tracks, running on routes from the capital of Lower Silesia to Krotoszyn, Jelenia Góra, Szklarska Poręba, Zgorzelec, Lubin, Żmigród and Bystrzyca Kłodzka.
Trains from Kłodzko to Kudowa-Zdrój and from Jelenia Góra to Szklarska Poręba will also return. New trains running between Legnica and Lubin will also appear in the timetable.
Selected trains running on the Wrocław–Jelenia Góra route will be extended to Szklarska Poręba. In addition, the train from Jelenia Góra (departure 5:27) to Szklarska Poręba (arrival 6:20) will run daily instead of only on weekdays.
Meanwhile, a train from Wałbrzych Miasto (departure 6:13) to Kudowa-Zdrój (arrival 8:57) will leave a few minutes earlier. One train running on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from Wrocław (departure 7:25) to Legnica (arrival 8:23) will be cancelled.
– I am convinced that many residents of the region will want to take advantage of Lower Silesia’s tourist offer during the upcoming holidays. That is why we decided to restore the largest possible number of regional connections, as well as international ones – said Tymoteusz Myrda, Member of the Management Board of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
The detailed timetable for individual lines, including all introduced changes, is available on the Koleje Dolnośląskie website.
International connections return
International connections to the Czech Republic and Germany, which were suspended first, still in the first half of March, will also return to the timetables.
From July 1, passengers will be able to use more than 40 trains connecting Lower Silesia with the Czech towns of Kralovec, Lichkov and Harrachov. From July 3, a direct connection between Wrocław and Prague operated by Koleje Dolnośląskie in cooperation with the Czech carrier Leo Express will also return to the tracks.
Trains to the German border towns of Forst and Goerlitz will also return to the timetable. The popular tourist connection to Dresden will also be restored. In total, more than 20 trains will run between German cities and Zgorzelec, Jelenia Góra, Legnica and Tuplice.
Earlier, on June 26, the “Train to Culture” returned to the tracks—a popular connection providing direct travel from Wrocław to Berlin. In 2019, more than 18,000 passengers used it.
