On Tuesday, May 12, a 35-year-old woman was shot in the head on Wielkiej Niedźwiedzicy Street in Legnica. Her condition is critical.

“The findings made during the investigation indicate that the victim and the perpetrator knew each other, as they worked at the same facility in the Special Economic Zone in Legnica,” says Legnica District Prosecutor Radosław Wrębiak. “They had been in a personal relationship for several years, but then the couple broke up. The man probably could not come to terms with it.”

Investigators established that on that fateful day, at around 3 p.m., the 36-year-old arrived outside his former partner’s home and waited for her. She returned home an hour and a half later. She was attacked immediately after entering the stairwell. The assailant fired two shots in her direction, one of them hitting her in the head. The second shot missed.

After the incident, the man got into his car and drove away. At around 9 p.m., he was arrested in a forest between Bolesławiec and Chocianów. (Immediately after committing the crime, the man called the police and said that he had killed his girlfriend.)

What is frightening is that the weapon with which the 36-year-old shot his former partner was a replica of a 19th-century revolver, which can easily be purchased online and for which no permit is required.

The perpetrator could face life imprisonment.
