Last year, during the season (April–September), 5,600 rides covering 13,500 km were recorded. The total riding time was 2,300 hours. The next city bike season is scheduled to begin on 15 May. As of today, no change to the system’s launch date is planned.
“Due to the current epidemiological situation, the system operators ORANGE POLSKA S.A. and ROOVEE S.A. are following the recommendations of the World Health Organization, which can help reduce the risk of infection. As part of servicing and relocating the bicycles, they will be disinfected once a day with special preparations,” says Agnieszka Gergont, press spokesperson for Bolesławiec City Hall.
She adds:
It is worth recalling that the system consists of 30 bicycles with three-speed gears, distributed across 10 BROM–ROOVEE PARK zones, combining the freedom of use associated with fourth-generation city bikes (bicycles with an onboard computer and GPS) with the order provided by the third generation, widespread in Poland (offline bicycles).
The zones are located by:
- the City Hall
- the thermal baths
- Leśny Potok
- the swimming pools on Spacerowa Street
- the Orlik sports field on Jarzębinowa Street
- Tysiąclecia Avenue – Tesco
- Kleeberga Street
- Śluzowa Street
- Góralska Street
- the intersection of Staszica and Wróblewskiego Streets.
More about BROM
BROM uses advanced ROOVEE electronics and software, and all communication with the bicycle takes place using Internet of Things (IoT) technology through Orange Polska’s infrastructure. The system can be accessed via a dedicated mobile application available for Android and iOS phones, as well as via a telephone code and SMS (for owners of ordinary phones). This means that BROM ensures broad accessibility without excluding members of society who do not own smartphones.
With BROM, users get 15 minutes free of charge; after that, each additional minute costs 5 groszy. The initial fee can be used entirely for rides or refunded by the user at any time.
The system also offers an innovative way of rewarding users for returning bicycles to BROM–ROOVEE PARK zones. This allows everyone to help maintain order, while users “earn” additional paid rides.
