A major success for the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Unit at the Zespół Opieki Zdrowotnej in Bolesławiec. The unit has qualified for a clinical programme involving the administration of convalescent plasma to patients infected with coronavirus.

– It is an old method that was used both during the SARS epidemic and during the Ebola epidemic. It produced good results – says Jarosław Kuc, head of the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Unit. – It is not a dangerous method.

Importantly, the hospital in Bolesławiec will be one of three centres across Lower Silesia where this therapy, approved by the Państwowa Agencja Badań Naukowych under the direction of Professor Grzegorz Mazur from the Wrocław Medical University, will be tested.

A total of 300 people are expected to take part in the trials. (The details are still being worked out).

– I hope this will help our patients – adds J. Kuc.

The first plasma is to be collected today. We have learned unofficially that among those who will take part in the initiative will be a doctor who has overcome coronavirus.
