More and more employees of the county hospital in Bolesławiec are receiving results confirming coronavirus infection. As many as 9 nurses and 2 doctors from the surgical ward are now infected. In addition, several nurses one nurse from the gynecology and obstetrics ward.
Family members of infected employees are being tested. In many cases, their results are positive as well.
Information we received from medical staff:
- nurses had to work in several wards, and the rule assigning a given nurse to a single ward was not observed; they had one shared changing room in the attic
- a nurse with symptoms of the disease was not tested and had to work because there was not enough staff
- it happened that a person who was on duty at the admissions desk of the infectious diseases ward also worked for the emergency medical service and had contact with various patients
We are probably at the beginning of the Bolesławiec outbreak of infections.
Hospital director on test results and the ward closure
Late yesterday evening, we received information about staff members who tested positive. They are staff from the surgical ward and one midwife from the gynecology and obstetrics ward. The midwife had contact with one nurse from the surgical ward, so we have to extend testing to other parts of the hospital.
The gynecology and obstetrics ward will now be placed under quarantine. The patients have either already been discharged home because they are healthy or transferred to the hospital in Wałbrzych. There are 4 of them. The neonatal ward has not been placed under quarantine.
The situation will probably be resolved tomorrow, and we will know whether the ward is operating or not. We should have the results tomorrow. Once we receive the data, we will decide how the gynecology and obstetrics ward will operate. I hope it will reopen tomorrow.
