On Wednesday (March 11), people stormed grocery stores. The goods disappearing from the shelves were mainly rice, pasta, groats, flour, sugar, meat, milk, mineral water and hygiene products, led by toilet paper. Panic among people was caused by a rumor that stores were supposedly going to be closed as early as Thursday (that is, today).

People rushed to supermarkets and began stocking up. What is more, some called their friends, passing on the rumor about the planned closure of stores. This made the stockpiling frenzy grow even further. This was happening throughout the country, and within a few hours some store shelves were empty.

All this was caused by rumors and panic related to the coronavirus. Therefore, we appeal to everyone: Please do not spread rumors and remain calm. Stores will not be closed. On Twitter, Development Minister Jadwiga Emilewicz also addressed the issue:

@JEmilewicz
I categorically deny the emerging #fakenews. All stores are operating and will continue to operate normally! There is no question of closing any retail outlets!
