After 10:30 p.m., there was a queue at the checkouts in Carrefour. Shoppers had trolleys full of mineral water, flour, groats, pasta and toilet paper. Shelves with cheaper food products were empty, while more expensive ones were still plentiful. These were not thoughtless purchases: customers were looking for promotions in order to stock up. What will they do with all that cheap pasta and groats? Let us hope they eat them rather than throw them away once they expire, because deliveries to stores will continue without problems. We do not yet know what losses the panic related to the coronavirus will cause, but we already know that the turnover of retailers and food producers will increase.
