A reader sent us a link to a post by Chocianów councillor Paweł Bujak. The local official wrote that a shelf for “used but still good candles that can be reused” had been installed in the town.

Councillor on the candle shelf

We asked the Municipal Housing Management Centre whether a similar solution could be introduced at the Bolesławiec cemetery. Kazimierz Łomotowski, director of MZGM in Bolesławiec:

I believe the idea is entirely sound. The proposal is being considered. However, the experiences of administrators of other cemeteries in this regard vary. There are situations where, despite the sound idea behind setting up such a shelf, the place is very often treated as an additional waste storage area. All kinds of old wreaths and other grave decorations end up on and around it, as well as candles that are so damaged that they are no longer suitable for placing on any grave. There are also cemeteries where residents place not dirty candles, but clean and attractive ones.

And he adds:

At present, no request concerning this matter has been submitted.

What do you think? Would such a shelf be useful at our cemetery? We invite you to join the discussion.
