Safer Internet Day has been held on the initiative of the European Commission since 2004. It is an opportunity to initiate and promote activities aimed at providing children and young people with safe access to online resources. Since 2005, the event in Poland has been organized by the Polish Safer Internet Programme Centre (PCPSI), established by the NASK National Research Institute and the Empowering Children Foundation.

Łukasz Hałat from “Elektronik”:

Here in Bolesławiec, at the Zespół Szkół Elektronicznych, we celebrated Safer Internet Day for the tenth time on 4 March 2020. This year’s event took place under the slogan “Let’s act together!”.

The organizers of Safer Internet Day place particular emphasis on the need for cooperation and the widespread involvement of parents, teachers and other professionals, as well as providers of online content and services, in activities that improve children’s safety online. They stress that counteracting negative phenomena—such as hate, cyberbullying, addiction and harmful online content—requires both the professional involvement of specialists from various sectors and industries and attentive contact between children and their parents, teachers and other people close to them.

The event began at 11:00 in the ZSE sports hall. It was attended by first-year ZSE classes and, as guests, students from schools in Bolesławiec County: Szkoła Podstawowa in Nowogrodziec and Primary Schools No. 1 and 5 in Bolesławiec.

Following an official speech by the school principal Andrzej Leśniewski, selected representatives of the first-year classes and invited schools took a test on safe Internet use. The competition jury, consisting of Magdalena Lenda-Szajwaj, Łukasz Hałat and fourth-year student Arkadiusz Fleszar, also judged the students’ efforts in art and film competitions and charades.

The students then listened to a lecture entitled “A Few Words about the Internet” by programmer and analyst Alberta Czarneckiego, representing the Laboratorium Kreatywności.

The substantive summary of this year’s Safer Internet Day and the presentation of prizes funded by Helion publishing house and the Parents’ Council at the Zespół Szkół Elektronicznych were carried out by Marek Rosa, deputy principal of the Zespół Szkół Elektronicznych, who thanked all participants—the representatives of the schools that took part in the Safer Internet Day celebrations and their supervisors.
