Władysław Kozakiewicz, an athlete and Civic Coalition candidate in last year’s Senate election, said in an interview with Onet:

My opponent from PiS outplayed me; obviously, they have their tricks. It is not easy competing against the ruling party, while I play fair and do not cheat.

Did your opponent cheat?

Of course he did. Before the election, I had one opponent; later, the non-party mayor of Bolesławiec joined the race and banned me from putting up election posters in the city. He took a considerable share of my votes.

The mayor of Bolesławiec is outraged and disgusted by Kozakiewicz’s interpretation of his defeat.

I wonder how anyone could ban that?! It makes absolutely no sense. I do not even feel like discussing it. I am against parachute candidates in single-member constituencies, and that is all. Did someone promise him something? I hope that next time, when the parties put forward candidates for the Senate, they will find someone from among the 300,000 residents of our constituency.

It should be added that Władysław Kozakiewicz lived abroad, in Germany, for many years. For many Lower Silesians, it was unexpected that the Civic Coalition chose him as its candidate from our constituency for the Senate of the Republic of Poland.
