The incident occurred on Saturday at around 5 p.m. in Lubin. On Piłsudskiego Street, officers from the SPEED group wanted to stop for a traffic check the driver of a Kia who was speeding at 81 km/h in a built-up area.

The driver completely ignored the signals given by the traffic patrol. What is more, he accelerated and, disregarding the traffic lights, drove through a red light. The officers began a pursuit and shortly afterwards stopped the fleeing driver.

It turned out that a 16-year-old resident of Rudna municipality was behind the wheel of the Kia. “He was under the influence of alcohol. In addition, he did not have any driving entitlements,” says Staff Warrant Officer Sylwia Serafin, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin. “He explained that he had failed to stop for the traffic check because he was frightened: he did not have a driving licence and had been drinking alcohol earlier.”

Moreover, the teenager had taken the car without his parents’ knowledge. At the time of the intervention, two of his friends, aged 15 and 16, were in the vehicle.

The young resident of Rudna municipality will now answer for his actions before the Family and Juvenile Court.
