On Friday, February 7, the long-awaited MRI scanner was brought to Bolesławiec by truck. A specialized crane also arrived. The individual components of the equipment are being unloaded.

The MRI components, including the heaviest one, weighing 5 tons, are being moved by crane onto a platform next to the extension at the Bolesławiec ZOZ. They will then be lifted into the medical imaging department. The General Electric device was purchased with the financial participation of all municipalities in Bolesławiec County.

The MRI scanner will operate in the medical imaging department, where construction work is nearing completion. Transporting and installing the equipment is an extremely large logistical operation that required heavy construction equipment as well as 20 qualified workers. The MRI scanner will be commissioned and accepted by the end of February.

MRI examinations in Bolesławiec

The first examinations for hospital patients will be performed from mid-April 2020, while appointments will be accepted from the beginning of March.

The device is very quiet during operation. An examination that can take up to 50 minutes on older machines is reduced to 10–15 minutes. In addition, the entire body of a patient can be examined at one time. This is especially important for patients battling cancer. The equipment will detect the primary tumor and any metastases in the body.

The modern MRI scanner is the first stage in the hospital’s development in 2020

The entire investment costs PLN 4 million and includes the purchase of the MRI scanner, doctors’ workstations for interpreting examinations, a contrast-agent administration device, expansion of the IT infrastructure and server room, as well as the delivery and implementation of software for medical imaging and electronic medical records.

As emphasized by the Director of the County Hospital in Bolesławiec, Kamil Barczyk: this is one of the largest and most important investments carried out at the county hospital over the past 10 years. It is the first stage in the development of the Bolesławiec hospital planned for 2020. As the director announces, the next stages of the investment will include the operating theatre, ICU, mammography, endoscopy and other hospital units.
