The Jelenia Góra District Prosecutor’s Office has filed an indictment with the Jelenia Góra Regional Court against a man accused of murdering a woman in Karpacz.

The tragedy occurred on November 16, 2019. An optical industry conference was being held at one of the hotels in Karpacz. Among those attending was Monika L., a representative of one of the companies.

That day, Paweł M., the woman’s acquaintance and former partner, also came to Karpacz. During a conversation in the hotel room, Paweł M. began strangling the victim with his hands and an iron cord, causing her death. He then hid the woman’s body on the balcony and left the hotel premises.

The intensive work undertaken by police officers after the victim’s body was discovered led to establishing Paweł M.’s whereabouts and arresting him. He was staying at a motel in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

After being brought to the Jelenia Góra District Prosecutor’s Office, Paweł M. was charged with murder, which he confessed to, and gave explanations indicating jealousy as the motive.

During the investigation, the Jelenia Góra District Prosecutor’s Office gathered a range of evidence, securing recordings from the hotel’s surveillance system and questioning other conference participants as well as the victim’s family and friends. Expert opinions were also obtained, including in the field of forensic medicine.

The 43-year-old resident of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship had not previously been convicted.
