The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon on Wrocławska Street in Lubin. A young man ran up to an elderly couple, snatched the woman’s handbag and fled.
The duty officer at the Lubin police headquarters dispatched traffic and preventive patrols to the scene. The woman who reported the incident gave the officers a description of the attacker and indicated the direction in which he had fled. Half an hour later, the suspect was already in the hands of the officers.
The perpetrator turned out to be a 20-year-old resident of Lubin. He was arrested at his apartment. The man confessed to the theft and also indicated where he had thrown away the wallet and handbag. KPP Lubin:
The officers recovered the stolen property and returned it to its delighted owner.
The 20-year-old explained to the police that he needed money for his child’s milk. However, this was not the detained man’s first such offense. A month earlier, the suspect had snatched a laptop bag worth PLN 4,500. His victim was a random man. (The officers also recovered the stolen property at that time).
The man was placed in a police cell. He will answer for his actions in court. The 20-year-old could face between three months and as many as five years in prison.
