In October 2019, we reported that Kornel Filipowicz, Piotr Roman’s second deputy, would serve as acting director of BOK–MCC from November 1 until the competition was resolved and a new director appointed.
There will be no competition, however. Everything indicates that K. Filipowicz will head BOK–MCC from February. The city authorities asked the trade unions of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramics Centre for their opinion on the matter. (However, they do not have to take it into account.)
What does this mean?
Kornel Filipowicz will no longer be deputy mayor. It is not yet known who will take his place. As istotne.pl was told by Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for the Bolesławiec city authorities, there is currently no candidate for the position.
Let us recall that we reported as early as July last year that the long-serving director of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramics Centre, Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, was leaving the position.
In October, we reported that, under an order issued by Mayor Piotr Roman, Kornel Filipowicz, deputy mayor of Bolesławiec, would temporarily serve as director of the institution. The justification for the document reads as follows:
The incumbent director of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramics Centre in Bolesławiec, Ms Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, submitted her resignation from the position held on July 29, 2019. The three-month notice period will end on October 31, 2019. Pursuant to Article 16a of the Act of October 25, 1991 on the organization and conduct of cultural activity, until a director selected under the provisions of Article 15, appointment and dismissal of the director of a cultural institution, or Article 16, competition for the position of director of a cultural institution, has been appointed, or until management of the cultural institution has been entrusted to a natural or legal person under Article 15a, entrusting management of a cultural institution, the organizer may entrust a designated person with performing the duties of director for a period not exceeding one year—in the case of a cultural institution other than an artistic institution.
In this situation, issuing this order is essential and necessary to ensure continuity in leading and managing the cultural institution.
Mr Kornel Przemysław Filipowicz has the necessary qualifications and management experience to perform the duties of director of BOK-MCC. As the Second Deputy Mayor, he has supervised the cultural institutions of the Bolesławiec municipal district since December 2010 and guarantees the continued proper functioning of this cultural institution, which is extremely important to the city.
