Drivers heading to Germany must be patient. On Tuesday (7 January) at around 2:00 p.m., the German side reinstated border controls. Major traffic jams are forming. The queue of cars on the A4 motorway and national road 94 towards Germany already exceeds 10 km. The traffic jam is forming near the village of Przesieczany (Zgorzelec County).

It is not yet known how long Germany has reinstated the controls for. This is probably a continuation of the temporary and random checks that were already carried out last year. At that time, the Ministry of the Interior of our western neighbours announced random checks. Such checks may take place at all border crossings in Germany, including those used by illegal immigrants. The purpose of the checks is to ensure security in Germany.

Update: 2020-01-07, 10:30 p.m.

The traffic jams began to ease at around 8:00 p.m. After 10:00 p.m., traffic across the border was flowing smoothly.
