At the scene, police officers from the Road Traffic Department of the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec and other emergency services were immediately dispatched. The officers secured the scene and carried out the necessary activities aimed at determining the exact course of the incident.
Preliminary findings by the police indicate that the 32-year-old driver of a Mercedes failed to give way to a 52-year-old woman driving a Hyundai. The woman was travelling with three female passengers. As a result of the incident, all four women were taken to hospital.
The people involved in the accident were tested for alcohol in their systems. They were all sober.
Under the supervision of a prosecutor, police officers will investigate the circumstances of the incident.
This incident once again shows how important concentration and respecting right-of-way rules are. Particular attention is required at intersections, exits and entrances to expressways, as well as in places where traffic organisation may require drivers to remain especially alert.
Let us remember to adjust our speed to the road conditions, watch the signs and the situation around the vehicle, and exercise particular caution when carrying out manoeuvres. A few seconds of attention can determine the health and life of other road users.
