The Disappearance directed by Adama Uryniak, based on the stories “Kunicki Woda,” “Kunicki Woda II” and “Kunicki Ziemia” included in the novel “Flights.” The film’s protagonist is Michał Kunicki, who leads a quiet life with his wife. Unfortunately, their happiness is shattered by the woman’s disappearance. Michał’s orderly world falls apart. The man tries at all costs to find out what really happened. With each passing day, the protagonist becomes increasingly obsessed, and every subsequent clue, instead of bringing him closer to discovering the truth, causes further disasters. (Poland 2011, drama, 63 minutes)

Spoor directed by Agnieszka Holland and Kasia Adamik, and based on the novel “Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead.” The film’s protagonist is Janina Duszejko, who insists on being called simply Duszejko, and even so, few people remember her surname. She is a retired engineer, an astrology enthusiast and a vegetarian. Full of passion and sensitivity, she fights for the fundamental values to which she remains faithful, but life is not easy for her—because of the community governed by a patriarchal order and because of her age. Duszejko once built bridges in the Middle East; today she lives alone in the Sudetes. One winter night, she finds the body of her neighbor, a poacher. That is when she begins an unconventional investigation. Agnieszka Holland said of “Spoor” that it could have been titled “No Country for Old Women.” “Spoor” cannot be put into a single category. In the beautiful landscapes of the Kłodzko Valley, crime fiction, black comedy, thriller and magic intermingle. (Poland, 2017, drama, 128 minutes).
