The accident occurred overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday. Shortly before midnight, at the 54th kilometre of the A4 motorway (near Różyniec), on the carriageway toward Wrocław, a Jeep hit a truck.
The truck had broken down. It was standing partly in the right lane and partly on the verge. As we managed to establish, the area was marked and illuminated. A police car was nearby.
The Jeep driver, a 69-year-old man from Podkarpacie, managed to avoid the police officers. But he could not avoid the truck. Almost the entire car went under the trailer. The 69-year-old man and the dog that was in the car died at the scene.
The impact was so powerful that the truck driver, who was standing near his vehicle’s cab, was injured. The 52-year-old man from Kalisz was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury.
Disruptions on this section did not end until after 6:00 a.m. The police and prosecutor’s office are determining the causes of the tragedy.
As we read on the website of the Komenda Powiatowa Państwowej Straży Pożarnej w Bolesławcu::
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found that the passenger car had driven almost entirely under the trailer of the truck. Before the crews arrived, the driver was evacuated from the car—the emergency medical team doctor pronounced the passenger-car driver dead.
The truck driver was provided assistance by the emergency medical team.
The crews’ main task was to pull the passenger car out from under the trailer. They checked whether there were any other injured people. The batteries in the vehicles were disconnected.
