A dangerous-looking road incident occurred on Sunday, November 17, at around 5:00 p.m. in Obora (Lubin gmina). The driver of a Mazda passenger car failed to stop at the railway crossing before the “stop” sign and drove straight into an approaching freight train.
When the accident occurred, the barrier was out of service, with information indicating that it was damaged.
Police, firefighters, an emergency medical team and members of the railway accident investigation committees responded at the scene. The Mazda driver and passenger were taken to hospital. The driver suffered only minor injuries. Unfortunately, the passenger sustained a spinal injury.
Both the train driver and the driver of the passenger car were sober.
Police:
We appeal for caution. A moment of inattention can lead to tragedy.
In this situation, we can speak of tremendous good fortune: the train driver was not travelling at high speed. The train’s braking distance was approximately 40 metres.
