Last week, officers from the Internal Affairs Bureau in Wrocław detained a Bolesławiec police officer. The 46-year-old officer supervised people held in the police detention facility. The police officer allegedly promised detainees that their cases would be concluded more quickly and that they would be treated more leniently by the police and prosecutor’s office. In return, he took money. This concerned people detained and sentenced under the so-called expedited procedure (e.g. drunk drivers).

– Mirosław K. made contact with detainees and referred to connections, including with a prosecutor. For example, he promised that he would try to have their driving licences confiscated for a shorter period – Maciej Prabucki, a prosecutor at the Jelenia Góra District Prosecutor’s Office, told the IstotneInformacje.pl service. So far, three people have admitted to handing a bribe to the police officer. The officer allegedly accepted a total of approximately PLN 1,500 from them.

The detained man did not plead guilty to the charges brought against him and refused to give testimony. He was remanded in custody. He faces between six months and eight years in prison and dismissal from the service. The investigation is ongoing. Further people are to be questioned.
