Four senior residents of Lubin contacted Lubin officers this weekend. They did not fall for the tricks of scammers and fraudsters. The latter once again tried to deceive the elderly using the “son” and “grandson” methods. Fortunately, without success.

How do scammers operate?

A man called the landline numbers of the people who reported the incidents, claiming to be either the caller’s son or grandson. The criminal told his interlocutors that he had knocked down a pedestrian. He added that he would need money to avoid a court hearing or imprisonment.

Police:

Fortunately, none of the people were deceived. The potential victims were aware that there could be a criminal on the other end of the line who wanted to extort their savings.

After ending their conversations, the seniors informed officers about the entire situation. The uniformed officers add:

We urge you to exercise caution and vigilance when making quick decisions involving large sums of money.

Let us remember that officers NEVER ask people to hand over funds. Do not give our savings to strangers. After receiving such calls, it is best to hang up and call the family member whom the caller claims to be.

Let us remind you: fraud can be punishable by up to eight years in prison.
