Five years ago, a mentally ill woman stabbed her child several times. The boy survived thanks to a successful operation performed by a team of doctors from the Bolesławiec hospital. After completing treatment, the mother once again wants to meet with her child, and the court granted her request. We wrote about the case in the article “Do you remember the mother who injured her child? You won’t believe what the court decided...”

On Sunday, 20 October, a discussion was held about the court’s decision, which allowed the mother to meet with her child only in the presence of a probation officer, and about the situation of the boy, who has a new home created by his biological father and his new wife. The discussion addressed the situation of children in the new family, children’s right to see their mother and the rights of biological parents. During the interview, the boy’s father, Seweryn, and his new wife, Nina, claimed that they were being harassed by the boy’s mother. The participants spoke about the helplessness of the authorities.

The programme featured, among others, Dr Wojciech Kasprzyk—a lawyer who defends the rights of the new family—and the President of the Polish Psychopedagogical Society, Dawid Karol Kołodziej, who provides therapeutic supervision for the family together with his Bolesławiec-based team, as well as a judge of the National Council of the Judiciary and a psychologist who defended the rights of people with mental illnesses.
