Veterinarian Marta Surdyka was called to see Kuba for the first time on Sunday, June 21. Employees of „Zieleń Plan”, who cared for the swan, called for help after noticing wounds on the bird’s body. On that day, Kuba was strong enough to escape to the middle of the pond and refused to swim back. On Monday, he was successfully brought to the „Marvet” veterinary clinic on Staszica Street.
Veterinarian Marta Surdyka found lacerations; the bird had probably been bitten by a dog. Kuba had been injured approximately three days earlier. Flies had already laid larvae in the wounds.
The bird was given antibiotics and his wounds were rinsed. They were not suitable for suturing. The employees caring for the swan were instructed how to look after Kuba. Marta Surdyka was optimistic, especially since on Sunday the bird had escaped under his own power and eaten independently.
Today, the Municipal Office was informed that swan Kuba had died. The consequence of the injuries he suffered may have been sepsis—purulent inflammation of the body.
The Municipal Office plans to purchase a pair of new birds so that the swans will have company. Kuba moved freely around the city because he felt at home there. Unfortunately, he paid for it with his life.
