10 years ago, we reported that two rapes of underage girls had taken place in our county—or, more precisely, in Kliczków and Nowogrodziec. (Neither girl was even 15 at the time.)

On October 8 this year—after more than 10 years!—a verdict was delivered in the case. The 46-year-old man from outside our county, who had stayed, among other places, in Silesia and Wrocław, was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Why did it take so long?

The perpetrator of the rapes from a decade ago, a repeatedly convicted criminal, was identified last year. He had committed a crime in another European Union country and, in accordance with procedure, biological material was collected from him and entered into a DNA database.

The system detected that he was the same person who had raped two minors 10 years earlier in our county. (At the time, biological material from the perpetrator had also been collected and entered into the aforementioned database.) The Polish National Police Headquarters passed this information on to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec.

The man was apprehended by officers in Wrocław, shortly after it became known that he was responsible for the rapes in our county. In the capital of Lower Silesia, the suspect was arrested in the act. (This time, the offense was not sexual in nature.)

His biological material was collected again at that time. Experts ultimately confirmed that he was the perpetrator of the rapes committed in Kliczków and Nowogrodziec.

At the request of the Bolesławiec prosecutor’s office, the man was placed in pretrial detention and later indicted. The proceedings took a long time, but a verdict was finally delivered.

As we have established, the man has four rapes to his name, including two committed abroad, near the Czech-German border. He committed all of the sexual offenses in 2009–2010.

The judgment is not final.
