The incident occurred on October 7, at around 3:00 a.m., in one of the car parks in the centre of Jelenia Góra. Police officers spotted a BMW with Austrian registration plates there. Officers:
The information available to us indicated that the car had been involved in a road collision in Jelenia Góra several days earlier, after which the driver had fled the scene.
The officers decided to stop the car for a roadside check. They activated their lights and siren, but the driver did not react; on the contrary, he began to flee.
Additional police patrols joined the chase. The fugitive was apprehended immediately after losing control of the car on Wolności Street and then hitting a streetlamp.
What is more, while attempting to stop the man, he damaged 2 police cars.
The driver turned out to be a 41-year-old resident of Lwówek County, who was travelling with a 39-year-old passenger from Bolesławiec.
The driver's behaviour indicated that he might have been driving under the influence of intoxicating substances. Blood was taken from him for further laboratory tests.
It also emerged that the 41-year-old was subject to an active driving ban. The passenger from the City of Ceramics, meanwhile, had... several doses of methamphetamine on him.
Both detainees were taken to police custody. The older of the two, who was remanded in custody for three months by court order, could face up to five years in prison. The man from Bolesławiec, meanwhile, could be imprisoned for up to three years.
