The incident occurred on October 7, at around 3:00 a.m., in one of the car parks in central Jelenia Góra. Police officers spotted a car with Austrian license plates. Officers:
The information available to us indicated that the car had been involved in a traffic collision in Jelenia Góra several days earlier, after which the driver fled the scene.
The officers decided to stop the car for a roadside check. They activated their lights and siren, but the driver did not respond; on the contrary, he began to flee.
Additional police patrols joined the pursuit. The fleeing driver was stopped immediately after losing control of the car on Wolności Street and then hitting a lamp post.
Moreover, while attempting to stop him, the man damaged two police patrol cars.
The driver turned out to be a 41-year-old resident of Lwówek County, traveling with a 39-year-old passenger from Bolesławiec.
The driver's behavior indicated that he might have been driving under the influence of intoxicating substances. Blood was taken from him for further laboratory tests.
What is more, it emerged that the 41-year-old had an active driving ban. The passenger from the City of Ceramics, meanwhile, had several portions of methamphetamine on him.
Both detainees were taken to police custody. The older of the two faces up to five years in prison. Our fellow resident, meanwhile, could be imprisoned for up to three years.
