On September 24, there were further attempts at fraud using the “police officer” method. Nowogrodziec police:

How not to become a victim of scammers?

As Nowogrodziec police report, if someone calls from an unknown number and claims to be a daughter, son, grandchild or police officer, and also reports a traumatic event, such as a road accident in which a person was killed—through the caller’s or their relative’s fault—and claims to need a large sum of money immediately, you should:

  • remain particularly cautious and try during the conversation to confirm whether the caller really is a family member or someone impersonating them
  • end the conversation about handing over money, especially since there may be a scammer on the other end of the line
  • do not tell the caller your address or about your savings
  • immediately inform the police by calling 112, as well as a family member or trusted neighbor who will certainly help properly assess the situation.
