In the area of the Krępnica Forest District, foresters found a watermelon. Surprisingly, the fruit, which prefers a decidedly warmer climate than the one we have in Poland, grew in the middle of the forest.

“Here, where we are now, there was definitely a lack of water. The summer was dry. Many allotment holders and garden owners could say how much water had to be poured to harvest anything from what had been planted. And here, naturally, without watering or any care, a watermelon grew,” Daniel Kaczmarek, deputy forester at the Krępnica Forest District, said in an interview with TVN24 Daniel Kaczmarek.

How did this fruit end up in our forest?

The foresters have several theories. Perhaps someone ate a watermelon here and spat out the seed. Or a jay brought the seed.

TVN24:

State Forests employees do not intend to pick it; they will wait for it to decompose naturally. Who knows, perhaps there will be more watermelons next year.
