On Monday, September 7, 2026, a tragic incident occurred near Leśna. In the evening, the duty officer at the County Police Headquarters in Lubań received a report about a man’s body found in the forest.
One of the mushroom pickers came across the body and notified the emergency services. A police patrol and a medical rescue team were dispatched to the scene. Unfortunately, the doctor who arrived pronounced the man dead.
Shortly after receiving this report, police officers from Lubań were informed that an 87-year-old resident of Lubań County was missing. The senior had left home to pick mushrooms several hours earlier. When he did not return for an extended period, his family decided to notify the emergency services.
The two reports were quickly linked. It turned out that the body found in the forest belonged to the 87-year-old man whose disappearance had been reported by his family.
Officers from the County Police Headquarters in Lubań worked at the scene. Procedural activities were carried out by an investigative team together with a forensic technician. All activities were conducted under the supervision of a prosecutor.
At this stage, the direct cause of the 87-year-old’s death is unknown. The autopsy results are expected to be crucial in clarifying the case.
