The incident occurred on 26 August, at around 8 p.m., on the road between Legnica and Złotoryja. While overtaking, the driver of an Audi collided head-on with an oncoming Honda motorcycle.

The car driver, who was travelling with passengers, fled the scene without helping the injured motorcyclist. The latter was seriously injured.

From the moment of the accident, officers from the Legnica police headquarters worked to identify the perpetrator. They carefully examined every clue, questioned witnesses and secured recordings from various surveillance systems.

The police officers’ efforts initially led to the arrest of the 36-year-old passenger of the Audi, who was charged several days ago with failing to assist an injured person. The prosecutor placed the man under police supervision.

The Audi driver identified by officers from the Department for Combating Property Crime had been hiding from the police for some time. His arrest was only a matter of time. Eventually, the 39-year-old was caught by criminal investigators and taken into police custody.

The evidence collected by the police enabled the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica to bring six charges against the detained man. The officers stated that:

The 39-year-old will be held responsible for causing the accident and failing to assist the injured party, possessing narcotic substances, driving despite a court-imposed ban on operating motor vehicles, and stealing two vehicles.

At the prosecutor’s request, the court remanded the man in custody for three months. He could face up to 15 years in prison.
