The Jelenia Góra District Prosecutor’s Office has filed an indictment with the court against three former Police officers from Bogatynia and Zgorzelec. The men were charged with a number of offenses, including participation in organized criminal groups involved in drug trafficking and bribery.
Two of the accused heard six charges each. Sławomir N. and Paweł M. committed the offenses between 2010 and 2014. The third, Paweł S., was presented with a total of 10 charges covering the period from 2016 to 2018.
Investigators:
In addition to participating in criminal groups, they committed a number of other prohibited acts, including accepting financial benefits in exchange for refraining from official duties and passing on information about ongoing criminal proceedings.
All three former officers are accused of jointly committing bribery by accepting a financial benefit of PLN 80,000 in exchange for refraining from official duties and failing to secure the discovered cannabis herb other than fiber hemp.
Two of them accepted a financial benefit totaling PLN 40,000 in exchange for refraining from official duties related to vehicle theft. The same two defendants also allegedly attempted to introduce a significant quantity of psychotropic substances into circulation, namely 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine. The transaction did not take place because the man they tried to persuade to purchase the drugs refused to participate.
Another of the accused allegedly refrained, among other things, from arresting a person wanted to serve a prison sentence, staging his escape from Police officers during the intervention. He was also charged with accepting a promise of a financial benefit in exchange for concealing information about another person being beaten. The accused provided false information in an official report from the intervention, on the basis of which criminal proceedings were subsequently not initiated.
He was also allegedly passing information about prosecutorial proceedings to criminals, thereby helping them avoid criminal liability while obstructing the investigations being conducted. He also incited another person to file a false report of a crime allegedly committed by another police officer.
The accused made bribery a regular source of income. In total, they accepted financial benefits amounting to approximately PLN 350,000.
The three could now face up to 20 years in prison.
