Police officers from the Zgorzelec traffic unit, while on duty in the Bogatynia municipality, attempted to stop a Mercedes for a roadside inspection.

However, despite the visual and audible signals ordering him to stop the car, the driver did not do so; on the contrary, he accelerated and continued driving.

The officers did not give up and began pursuing the driver, who turned onto a forest road. There, the fleeing car was damaged. The driver and his female passenger then started fleeing on foot. It did not do them much good. After a short while, the pair was detained.

It turned out that the 42-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County was wanted, as he had a sentence of several dozen days in prison to serve. What is more, he was also banned from driving.

To make matters worse, it emerged that the 42-year-old had been driving under the influence of methamphetamine, and the officers found a bag containing the drug in the car.

The suspect could now face an additional sentence of up to five years in prison.
